About the Law Library
Learn about the history, and governance of the Sixth Judicial Circuit’s law library in Clearwater.
History of the Law Library
Law libraries were established in Clearwater and St. Petersburg in approximately 1950 and at the Pinellas County Justice Center in 1982.
In 1996, through an interlocal agreement between Pinellas County and the Sixth Judicial Circuit, the libraries came under the administration of the Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit with funding provided by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners.
Due to budget reductions during the economic downturn of 2007–2008, the Pinellas County Justice Center and St. Petersburg law library locations were closed.
Today, the law library operates from the Historic Courthouse in downtown Clearwater.
Board of Trustees
The Law Library is advised by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit.
