Public Information Office
The Sixth Judicial Circuit Public Information Office serves as the primary contact for media representatives seeking information on the court and coordinates the news coverage activity.
The office also disseminates information to the public, schools and other government organizations about
the role and functioning of the local court system. Attempts are
made to reach the public with information about court-related
developments.
As part of its community outreach activities, the Public
Information Office:
- Arranges for speakers, who provide educational-type
presentations to civic groups, private clubs, other community
organizations and schools.
- Arranges and conducts tours for requesting groups and
classes.
- Receives and researches proper responses to requests for copies of public records.
- Updates the circuit’s website with information on court closings and operations during hurricanes and other unexpected emergencies.
In the Sixth Circuit, public and media access to court proceedings is taken seriously. We recognize
that one of the fundamental principles behind our legal process is the requirement that proceedings be
conducted in open court. That means, that with only a few statute-mandated exceptions, all civil and
criminal proceedings within our trial courts are open to the watchful eye of the media and the people the
system serves.
