This will acknowledge your letter of March 19, 1975, as to the propriety of:

1) writing a letter of character reference for a friend applying for a gun permit?

2) writing a letter of character reference for a.friend applying for employment?

3) writing a letter of character reference for a friend applying for admission to a university?

I am.enclosing a copy of opinion that the Committee has just furnished to the Judicial Qualifications Commission.
