Re: Canon 7
Dear Judge
A majority of the members of the Standards of Judicial Conduct Committee
recommend against the preparation and distribution of the brochure as outlined
in your letter of October 19, 1973 to the Judicial Qualifications Commission,
Tallahassee.
The objections are:
1. The brochure would appear to emphasize the constitutional and procedural
rights of the defendant, while making no explanation of or dealing with
the rights of the prosecution. The impartiality of a Judge might be questionable.
2. It has the appearance of self advertisement.
3. Brochures of this kind we feel should be prepared under the auspices
of the bar association.
With seasons greetings and high regards, I am,
/s/ GUNTER STEPHENSON
CIRCUIT JUDGE
