Opinion No. 86/12
This letter is in answer to the inquiry which you made on June 26, 1986, and to confirm my telephone conversation of July 8, 1986 wherein I advised you of the Committee's response to your question. You asked the Committee to express its opinion concerning the propriety of your attendance at a function honoring a legislative delegation hosted by the president of a university. You pointed out that no fund raising or any mention of such would occur at the function.
The Committee unanimously agreed that in the context described in your letter, your attendance at the function would not be prohibited by the code of Judicial Conduct. In 1976 the Committee considered substantially the identical question contained in your inquiry. I am enclosing a copy of Opinion 76-6 for your information.
Very truly yours,
John W. Dell
