RE: JURY SELECTION - PINELLAS COUNTY

In accordance with Chapter 40, Florida Statutes; and

In order to provide an adequate number of jurors for service in the courts of Pinellas County, it is necessary to obtain from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle database the names of prospective jurors to be selected therefrom at random, it is therefore,

ORDERED:

Karleen F. DeBlaker, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Pinellas County shall:

1. Cause the approved jury selection system to be used each quarter for the random

selection of the names of persons from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle

database to serve as jurors in the courts of Pinellas County. The database shall be the source

from which the names of persons for jury service are to be drawn as required for the Courts in

Pinellas County.

2. Add to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle database the names

and addresses of eligible persons who complete an Application for Jury Service and, permanently retain such names in the database until no longer eligible for jury service.

3. Submit information monthly about prospective jurors to the Florida Department

of Law Enforcement.

4. Request prospective jurors selected for the specified service to complete

questionnaires as attached in order to aid and shorten the voir dire examination in the trial cases before the courts.

5. Summon jurors for service at the Judicial Building, 545-1st Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL and the 501 County Building, St. Petersburg, FL, from the Southern Jury District.

6. Summon jurors for service at the Clearwater Courthouse at 315 Court Street,

Clearwater, FL and the Old Historic Courthouse, 324 S. Ft. Harrison Avenue, Clearwater, FL,

from the Northern Jury District.

7. Summon jurors for service at the Pinellas County Criminal Justice Center located

at 14250 49th Street North, Clearwater, FL, from the combined North and South Districts.

8. Include in the jury summons and questionnaire mailing information relative to

statutory disqualifications in accordance with Section 40.013, Florida Statutes, and provide persons an opportunity to request such statutory disqualification or excuse in writing.

9. Provide in the jury selection process for the mailing of a summons to those

persons whose jury service has been postponed to a later date by the court.

Administrative Order PI-CIR-01-59 is hereby rescinded.
